While it is common knowledge that THC is the active compound found in marijuana that gets you “high”, scientists have found that the plants sister cannabinoid, known as CBD, actually has very opposite effects when isolated, instead acting as an anti-anxiety / anti-inflammatory / anti-psychotic, without any of the spacey psychoactive effects most people associate with marijuana and THC.
Over the past decade, scientists have been studying the use of Cannabidiol, CBD for short - a product which can readily be bought online at sites like Johnny AppleCBD. These studies have proven very effective in the treatment of several medical conditions, especially in patients with epilepsy who suffer from seizures. CBD has also been proven to reduce anxiety in patients who suffer from both social and work related anxiety as well as in more extreme cases such as varying forms of PTSD.
These breakthroughs have led the scientific field to respect the medicinal benefits of CBD and to expand their research with the cannabinoid, the results of which have time and time again been equally surprising and impressive. Here are 5 little known studies about CBD that will make you want to jump on the "CBD train" yourself. When you decide to, head to http://www.johnnyapplecbd.com !
1. Multiple Sclerosis
The administration of CBD has also been shown to prevent MS-like symptoms in mice by “preventing immune cells from attacking nerve cells in the spinal cord” a study published by The Tel-Aviv University says. The scientists, who injected mice with partially paralyzed limbs with CBD, noticed the mice slowly regained movement, "first twitching their tails and then beginning to walk without a limp." The researchers also noted that the mice treated with CBD also had “much less inflammation in the spinal cord than their untreated counterparts.”
2. Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues, so it is no surprise that CBD’s strong anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety properties have proved to be efficient in treating the symptoms associated with the disease. A 2011 study conducted by the National Center for Biotechnology Information found that the patients treated with CBD “showed a statistically significant reduction of pain and stiffness, enhancement of relaxation, and an increase in somnolence and feeling of well being” while those treated with traditional medication saw little to no improvement at all.
3. Diabetes
A study conducted by The Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cancer Immunotherapy, CBD was found to prevent the development of diabetes in mice. The authors of the study state that CBD “lowers the incidence of diabetes in young non-obese diabetes-prone (NOD) female mice.” The authors continue “administration of CBD to 11-14 week old female NOD mice, which are either in a latent diabetes stage or with initial symptoms of diabetes, ameliorates the manifestations of the disease”, and that in addition, “the level of the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-12 produced by splenocytes was significantly reduced, whereas the level of the anti-inflammatory IL-10 was significantly elevated following CBD-treatment.” Simply put, CBD not only counteracted the catalyst to type 1 diabetes, but also helped to treat the disease as well.
4. Smoking
In 2013, a study comprised of 24 smokers were chosen at random to receive either a CBD or placebo inhaler and were told to use it any time they had a craving for a cigarette. The study found there to be a “dramatic reduction in the number of cigarettes smoked across a 7 day period in the individuals using the CBD inhaler, compared to no reduction in the placebo group.”
5. Acne
In a study published by The National Institute of Health, researchers treated patients who suffered from moderate to severe acne with a CBD derived topical on the sebaceous glands. These tests concluded that cannabidiol acted as a highly effective anti-inflammatory and inhibited the synthesis of lipids that naturally help treat and reduce the effects of acne.
