Research from Colorado State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences demonstrated the safety of giving CBD oil to dogs. In a 2016 clinical trial, 30 dogs were given CBD oil in various forms and amounts for six weeks. Researchers found that the most common side effect was occasional diarrhea, but noted that the amounts of CBD oil given to the dogs was higher than it would be for clinical use.
Research into the safety of CBD oil for cats is ongoing. If you're concerned about safety, it's best to consult your veterinarian.
WHAT RESEARCH HAS BEEN DONE ON CBD FOR PETS?
Recent research shows promising results for giving CBD hemp oil to pets with pain caused by osteoarthritis. Exciting new research from Cornell studied the effects of giving CBD oil to dogs twice daily for four weeks. Around 80 percent of the dogs experienced a significant reduction in pain as measured by owner questionnaires and veterinary assessment.
More research on CBD oil for pets is being done every day. Currently, Colorado State University is running a clinical trial on CBD for canine epilepsy, as well as another trial on osteoarthritis pain. We can look forward to seeing more evidence of the beneficial effects of CBD hemp oil in dogs and cats in the near future.
